Masters of Poland Posters in Nagaoka

An Exhibition Poster by Tetsuro Minorikawa

This exhibition poster symbolizes the contents of the exhibition in one visual. People who appreciate it will understand roughly what the exhibition contents are like and feel the characteristics of Polish posters.

Tetsuro Minorikawa, an associate professor at Nagaoka Institute of Design, collaborated with Akiyama Takashi Poster Museum Nagaoka to conduct research on Polish posters. The result of their joint research is the exhibition "Masters of Poland Posters in Nagaoka" held at the Takashi Akiyama Poster Museum Nagaoka. The focus of the research was on posters that utilize Polish's characteristic realism technique.

The exhibition poster, designed by Tetsuro Minorikawa, captures the essence of the exhibition. Inspired by Polish poster artist Wieslaw Walkuski, Minorikawa converted the face of a woman into a rose, creating a characteristic and mysterious image. The poster was created using offset printing with special color 2-color printing. It measures 728mm in width and 1030mm in height.

The Polish Poster Project, which started in April 2012 and finished in June 2013, aimed to research the posters of Polish realism technique and understand their attractiveness. The exhibition poster reflects the attractiveness discovered during the research.

This design project faced the challenge of updating the realism technique for the present version of the exhibition poster. While posters using this technique are not commonly created in present-day Poland, Minorikawa successfully incorporated the technique into the design, giving it a contemporary touch.

The "Masters of Poland Posters in Nagaoka" exhibition was held at the Takashi Akiyama Poster Museum Nagaoka from June 1 to June 29, 2013. The exhibition showcased the unique and captivating Polish posters researched during the project.

This design, created by Tetsuro Minorikawa, was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2018. The award recognizes well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The exhibition poster exemplifies industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, contributing to a better world.
